Register Insertion Ring (1)
The ring is analogous to a conveyor belt that caries frames and has inter-frame gaps
Input from the ring is received into the transit buffer
- If the address is that of the current node, the frame is transferred to the node as it is received
- If it is addressed to someone else, it is shifted out
If station has a frame to send
- The frame is stored in the output buffer
- When the transit buffer has enough space to accommodate a future incoming frame, the stored outgoing frame is sent out
