Register Insertion Ring (1)

• The ring is analogous to a conveyor belt that caries frames and has inter-frame gaps

• Input from the ring is received into the transit buffer

  • If the address is that of the current node, the frame is transferred to the node as it is received
  • If it is addressed to someone else, it is shifted out

• If station has a frame to send

  • The frame is stored in the output buffer
  • When the transit buffer has enough space to accommodate a future incoming frame, the stored outgoing frame is sent out
