6.S081 (0-3-0) Public Speaking Practicum
Hands-on introduction to public speaking. Students learn how to (1) prepare and deliver material by giving speeches and one group presentation, and (2) develop confidence in their speaking ability through in-class activities (both
impromptu and prepared), rehearsal during tutorial, and feedback. This first-term half-term course (of seven weeks) is especially suitable for those who are petrified of and/or new to public speaking. Enrollment may be limited; preference given to those who are pre-registered.
Upon completion of the course, students will have gained experience:
- structuring and delivering a speech,
- giving a group presentation with basic slides, and
- speaking in an extemporaneous fashion.
6.S082 (0-3-0) Public Speaking Practicum II
Hands-on public speaking course that builds upon the skills taught in 6.S081 Public Speaking Practicum. Students continue to work on basic delivery, gain confidence in impromptu speaking, learn how to construct a more memorable speech, and explore the use of sketching as a communication aid. This second quarter half-term course (of seven weeks) is suitable for those who (1) have some public speaking experience and (2) have a desire to improve their public speaking skills in a fun supportive environment. Enrollment may be limited; preference given to those who are pre-registered.
