6.042 Problem Set Grading Policy ================================ Each problem set carries a total of 100 points. Points will be assigned for each individual problem part. Grading will be based on correctness and clarity. Late problem sets or problem sets without collaboration statements will not be graded without prior arrangement with TA. If the student makes major mistakes in the solution, (e.g., major flaw in proofs, answers based on invalid arguments,) and fails to demonstrate his understanding in approaching the problem, he gets 0-30% of the points. A score of 30-70% will be awarded if the student is able to identify key insights of the problem, but fails to present the idea in rigorous mathematical terms. If the student follows a correct approach to the problem and is able to solve/prove the major part of the problem, he gets at least 70% of the points. 10% will be deducted for each minor mistake and poor presentation, up to a 30% maximum.
