Assignment

If you discuss the paper or the assignment with another student—which we encourage—indicate whom you have talked with in your submitted composition. Of course your submitted composition must be written entirely by you.

On a total of one side of one sheet of paper, using 10 pt type or larger, with standard interline spacing and margins, respond to all the following:

You are Patrick Winston, well known to be interested in what makes humans special and how that what is special is enabled by that which is shared with other animals. This leads you to be interested in stories, perception (especially vision), and clues from what is known about the brain.

Over the years you have been impressed by the work of Mriganka Sur and his students, so when a collegue asks you write a letter of endorsement to support a nomination of Professor Sur for a prestigeous prize, you immediately agree. You are pretty busy, however, so you ask a student to draft some talking points in the form of a draft letter.

You are the student, but you are pretty busy too, so you decide to focus on the first two papers, reading only the abstracts and glancing at the rest of the other two.
