Probabilistic models of language processing and acquisition, by Nick Chater and Christopher D. Manning
A quad chart consists of a quadrant with
together with three quadrants with the following titles
The more elaborate quint chart (with example) retains the Impact and New Ideas elements, replaces Milestones with End of Phase Goal, adds Status Quo, and Achievements, arranged as follows:
The quint chart also has a title and a bumper sticker.
Thus, a quint chart displays a lot of information.
Suspending disbelief, imagine that Tony Tether, late of DARPA, has become director of the National Science Foundation. Bringing his DARPA habits with him, he decrees that all projects will prepare quint charts, just like those prepared at DARPA, except that the impact is to be scientific, rather than military.
Construct a quint chart for the work described by Chater and Manning. Use your imagination to concoct end-of-phase goals; try to include combinations of the ideas in the paper with other salient ideas in the subject.
Be sure your goals are detailed and quantified. Also, be sure you do not use the forbidden words, or any synonyms, as discussed in class.
You may prepare your quint chart with or without presentation software. To assist you if you do use presentation sofware, we provide templates for Open Office Impress and MicroSoft PowerPoint.
