Java Readings II
Here are a new set of recommended readings from "Beginning Java 2.",
specifically centered around Problem Set 2. Again, feel free to skip
the "Try It Out" sections if you feel relatively comfortable with Java
thus far, but if you encountered difficulty getting the code you wrote
from scratch to compile on Problem Set 1, then having someone else's
code to use as a template can be useful for when you're first getting
acquaintted with a new library.
Chapter 8: pages 319-329, 332-337, 345-348, 351-362
Chapter 9: pages 367-375, 379-384
There's actually a lot of information in these two chapters that you
don't need for problem set 2; I have tried to filter those portions
out of these readings, for the sake of students who want to dig into
the problem set without having to learn about Serializing Objects and
what not. However, it could be very useful information to have
in the future, not just for the final project but for when you may
need to program in Java for a UROP or Internship or whatever. So
while the other portions of the two chapters have not been assigned,
don't be afraid to look through them and ask yourself how they could
have been applied to other programming projects you have worked with.
