6.111 Announcements

Week of December 4, 2006

  • The 6.111 lab will be open the following hours this coming week/weekend:
      Mon-Thu, 12/4-12/7: 0900 - 0130
      Fri, 12/08: 0900 - 2000
      Sat, 12/09: 0900 - 2200
      Sun, 12/10: 0900 - 0130
    On Saturday and on Sunday until 1600 please enter the lab through the sixth floor door.

  • The comments and grades for the CI-M have been posted. Here's the translation between letter grades and the numeric score: A=100, A=95, A-=90, B+=85, B=80, B-=75, C+=70, C=65, C-=60, D+=55, D=50, F=40.

Week of November 27, 2006

  • The 6.111 lab will be open the following hours this weekend:
      Saturday, 12/2: 0900 - 2200
      Sunday, 12/3: 0900 - 2345
    On Saturday and on Sunday until 1300 please enter the lab through the sixth floor door.

  • An updated version of display_16hex.v has been posted. The new version fixes a race condition which caused the display to not work reliably from compilation to compilation. If you downloaded display_string.v from the Fall 2005 website, that's also been updated.

Week of November 20, 2005

  • Please upload a PDF of your checklist of deliverables by 5pm on Wed, 11/22. This checklist should include a comprehensive list of what you're planning to demonstrate at final project checkoff. Usually the list includes each of the major modules in your design with a sentence or two describing their functionality and how they'll be demonstrated. Include your more ambitious goals too (mark them "if time permits") so we'll know all the things you're trying to get working.

  • The lab will not be open over Thanksgiving. It closes at 1515 on Wednesday, 11/22, and reopens at 1300 on Sunday, 11/26.

  • Midterm: avg = 81, stddev = 11, solutions [PDF].
    You can pick up your graded quiz from the table under the projection screen in alcove on the south side of the 6.111 lab.

  • The lab will not be open over Thanksgiving. It closes at 1515 on Wednesday, 11/22, and reopens at noon on Sunday, 11/26.

  • This is the week you should nail down the details of your design and if you need special parts get them ordered. The staff assigned to your team will need approve any purchases made using course funds, so please talk to them ASAP.

  • We'll be assigning a staff mentor to each project team. Your mentor will email you to schedule the Proposal Conference.

  • The quiz is scheduled for Wednesday, 11/1, from 7:30p to 9:30p in 50-340. It's closed book; you can bring calculators (although you won't need them!). The coverage is the material presentented in lecture and in the tutorial problems. Practice exams are available on the Handouts page.

  • Wednesday is the last scheduled lecture for this term.

  • The CI-M folks have posted reviews for your draft CI-M papers. The reviewers have marked up your PDF and you can download the result from the "Submit PDFs" page. Please make the appropriate revisions and upload the final version of your paper by 5pm on Monday, 10/30.

  • The quiz is scheduled for next Wednesday, 11/1, from 7:30p to 9:30p in 50-340. It's closed book; you can bring calculators (although you won't need them!).   • Warning! Some students have had problems using the Xilinx tools off of the shared drive (U:). We recommend placing your project folder on the E: drive, copying the folder back to the U: drive when you logout.

  • To submit a draft (in PDF form) of your CI-M paper, use the "Submit PDFs" link to the left. When the reviewers have made their comments, you'll be able view/download their commented PDF files from the submissions page.

Guidelines for the report can be found at the end of the lab handout and additional writing resources are listed as part of the Lab 3 material.

  • Gim Hom will be giving demos in the 6.111 lab (38-600) on how to use the labkit. He'll be giving the demo at five different times:
    • Sunday, 9/17, at 2:00pm, 7:00pm and 9:00pm
    • Monday, 9/18, at 7:00pm and 9:00pm

  • Lab 3 has been issued. Checkoff should be completed by 5pm, 10/7. The Lab 3 written report will be used to satisfy the CI-M requirement and is due by 5pm on 10/11.   • Lab #1 has been issued. Take the Lab Kit Signout form to the Instrument Room (38-601) after Thursday, 9/7 at 1pm to check out a kit of parts, tools and test equipment leads you'll need to work on the labs.
