6.111 Announcements

Weeks of November 29 and December 6, 2004

  • Final to-do list:
    • Tue, Wed (12/7 - 12/8): Project presentations
    • Thu (12/9) @ 5pm: Project report due

  • The schedule for the final presentations has been posted. The meetings will be in the 6.111 lab. The agenda is as follows:
    • demonstration, checklist review
    • discussion with each team member about their part of the design
    • videotaping a short segment about the project

  • Please submit your final report as a PDF file (emailed to cjt@mit.edu by 5pm on 12/9). The report is similar to the ones you prepared for Labs 2 and 3. Material from the proposal can be used. The Introduction and Summary sections can be joint efforts of the project team, but the report must contain separate sections, individually written, describing in some detail the subsystems for which each partner is responsible. The information in the report will be used when assigning points for problem definition, architecture, and design. Each section of the report should indicate the responsible author(s).

  • Before turning in your lab kit, please remove any wires and components from the protoboard and blank both of the FPGAs. Thanks! Remember to turn in components that were ordered through MIT.

Week of November 8, 2004

  • This week's to-do list:
    • Fri: Block Diagram Conference w/ TA (email PDF to cjt@mit.edu)

  • Design presentations start a week from Wednesday. The order of presentations will chosen at random and sent out at the end of this week.

  • This is the week you should nail down the details of your design and if you need special parts get them ordered. The TA assigned to your team will need approve any purchases made using course funds, so please talk to him ASAP. If you're considering a parts order here are some guidelines:
    • check with Arlin to see if we already have an equivalent part in the stockroom.
    • make sure the part comes in a package that you can use (many parts now come in surface mount packages which are hard/impossible to connect to the lab kits).
    • order a spare
    • check that the parts are in stock and will arrive before Thanksgiving. Parts arriving after Thanksgiving are unlikely to be useful in your project. A good place to look is www.digikey.com.
    • After approval by your TA, you can order the parts yourselves and get reimbursed (we won't be able reimburse sales tax, sorry), or you can have John Sweeney (5th floor instrument room) order the parts. For Digikey orders, please get him your info by Wednesday so the parts will arrive by Friday.
    • there are only limited funds available, so your parts request should be relatively modest.
