NB System for Online Reading Comments:
Starting this week, the NB system for reading comments will be
available. NB is a a user-friendly interface where you can view
the pdf of the readings, highlight the paragraphs that interest
you, and write a question/comment on them all within the
interface. For the time being, comments may also be submitted
to
6042-probs@csail.mit.edu.
Every student registered in 6.042 should have received an
invitations (via email) to start using the system. We encourage
you to submit your weekly reading comments when possible via NB
interface rather than 6042-probs. Once you receive the invitation
to use the NB system, experiment with the features, and let us
know if you have any questions. We could potentially have an
optional NB tutorial session if enough people request it.
Here are some NB tips:
- To use NB, just drag on the region that you'd like to
annotate, type your comment and click save. That's it! By
right-clicking on an existing comment, you can reply to
other's comments and mark them as questions or unclear
points. With NB, both your staff, your classmates, and
yourself can benefit from your reading comments.
- This means that all sort of new things are now possible
such as:
- If you have a question about the material, or would
like to discuss some point, your classmates can
participate to that discussion, which means faster replies
to your questions.
- If you have the same question as someone else, mark
his/her question as "answer please", so that this question
will get even more attention.
- Your reading assignments can consist in writing new
notes, or replying to notes from other students and
staff. If you have questions about the material, you are
encouraged to write them as soon as possible, so that your
classmates and staff have more time to reply.
- By default, the whole class can see your comments, but
they are anonymous. If you click the "sign" checkbox, the
class will see your email next to your comment.
